Research opportunity examining radioluminescent nanoparticle activation of opsins in brain cells

To whom it may concern:

I’m an assistant professor of Neuroscience at UNM and my colleagues and I received an NSF award to examine radioluminescent nanoparticle activation of opsins in brain cells (https://www.nsf.gov/awardsearch/showAward?AWD_ID=1632881). As part of this award we have two slots for a undergraduates from across the state to take part in their Townes Fellowship summer program at Clemson University. I’ve attached a flier and description from their administrator below. Sorry for the late notice (the application deadline has already been extended) but we would be grateful if you would forward this on to any and all students you think might be interested so they can potentially take part in this opportunity.

Best,

Jason

All,

Attached is the information on the 2018 Townes Fellows Optical Science and Engineering Summer Program.  This year the application is electronic and can be found within the attachment or at https://goo.gl/forms/ZFCX49ZgQF8iRLSH3  Please forward within your departments to your students and faculty.  This invitation is extended to students in the following fields: physics, chemistry, computer science, materials science, engineering, and optics (or comparable field).

The Charles H Townes Fellows Optical Science and Engineering Program is now in its 12th year and has had students from around the country participate.  Many of these students find their way in this program for what they want to do as a next step after undergraduate.  We have a vast network of alumni that can help with their questions too.

Students will get to work with a graduate student or group on a project that is their own.  They will learn the research process and the writing process that goes along with good research.  Students will be tasked to complete safety training, abstract on their work, a paper at the end of their summer and a poster to present in a poster competition with other REU programs within Clemson University.  These students will also attend seminars on the NSF Graduate Fellowship award, career seminars and equipment training.

If you or your students have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to email or call me.  More information can be found at http://www.clemson.edu/centers-institutes/comset/townes/summer-program.html.

Important dates for the program are as follows:
