CHME excites Albuquerque youth about STEM at Discovery Festival

It’s ALL about Discover!
The Discovery Festival took place in Albuquerque on November 3 and 4, was a great opportunity to showcase to elementary and middle school aged students the excitement of STEM. Through the use of hands-on demonstrations that included making slime and shaving cream art, NMSU CHME students were able to teach kids about chemical and physical properties of materials, such as viscosity.  The students were amazed by the activities, and asked a lot of questions, were excited to learn, were also excited to get messy, and generally excited to be there.
The NMSU AICHE booth were recognized twice: (1) the best Hands-on Demonstration out of the 41 booths which included other universities like NM Tech and companies such as Honeywell and Sandia National Laboratories; and (2) The Kids Choice award, which was determined by the votes of the about 2500 students that attended the event.
Thanks to Honeywell for sponsoring the NMSU AICHE booth and The College of Engineering and The Department of Chemical & Materials Engineering for providing travel funding.

CHME students included: Alejandro Acosta, Matthew Armijo, Jessie Linder, Jamey Palomares, Alondra Arreola Perez, Laura Pina, and Stephanie Richins.
