AICHE Student Chapter participates in Regional in Salt Lake City

During the last weekend of spring break, 22 Chemical Engineering Majors traveled to Salt Lake City, Utah to attend the AIChE Rocky Mountain Regional Conference. We competed in CHME Jeopardy and the CHME Car competitions. We earned 3rd place in CHME Jeopardy, and 7th in the CHME Car competition, as well as being awarded the Golden Tire Award (people’s choice for CHME Car). The conference attendees brought lots of team spirit to the competitions. We had so much fun and grew as an organization as a result of this trip. We strengthened our friendships among peers who are not in our particular class which is a very valuable thing.
Two of our members, Stephanie Richins and Esai Lopez, presented papers on their research. Their presentations went extremely well, they represented NMSU CHME with pride. We also got lots of ideas for how to improve our chapter in the future with the addition of more corporate sponshorships. We made connections with recruiters from Simplot and are planning on a recruiting session with them next year. Visiting BYU and attending this conference was the highlight of the semester.
